Trichomes are the tiny, mushroom-shaped glands on your cannabis flowers that produce cannabinoids and terpenes. Their appearance changes throughout the plant's life cycle.

Clear Trichomes: Indicate immaturity and low potency.
Cloudy/Milky Trichomes: Suggest peak THC production. This is often the ideal time for harvest for a more energetic high.

The Origin of 420

There are many debates as to what the true story of 420 really is but the most widely known involves non-other than a group of five San Rafael high school teens, nicknamed “The Waldos”, who used to hangout outside their school.

After hearing word of a secretly planted cannabis plant hidden within the Point Reyes Forest, the five teens would set off everyday after practice in search for this magical herb. During their school hours, The Waldos would yell at one another “420.Louis” to signify their meet up spot for that day's adventure.

Unfortunately for The Waldos, it is said that they never found the plant. Instead, they found something a bit more valuable than a hidden cannabis plant–that being the term 420.

I am the black sheep in my family when it comes to cannabis and I used to be closed minded until I got properly educated, and assisted in finding what strains and other cannabinoids where right for me. I have an autoimmune disease called MCAS and I’m allergic to over 2,000 things . Every day I have inflammation and anxiety issues but reliable cannabis brands like you guys really help me make it through. Using THC , CBD , CBN, and CBG specifically have really aided in my health plan . I love bud-tending and educating those on what I was once blind to . I love LOVE , and this plant medicine truly is changing the world . I have lived all over California and was very sad year after year when I couldn’t find a brand I could respect & trust from my city . I was born in Sacramento and it wasn’t until recently I found a company I respect enough to claim from my hometown . How did you get into Cannabis?

I got invited to tour the grow facility, and one of the strains we got to get a close look at was Black Slush before it got released. It was amazing to see how much care and time Seven Leaves puts into its strains. I got into the cannabis industry shortly after moving to California from Wisconsin three years ago. It was a great job to have during the pandemic, and I was able to take my knowledge from the streets to the retail side of it.

I like to do photography, trade, get to know people, and make new friends outside of work. My passion for photography was fueled by my dad, as he has been a self-standing photographer with his own business for as long as I can remember. I have taken what I've learned from him and used it in my life to promote and capture different businesses or clients, just like I did with these Seven Leaves merch pictures.

Where do I start? Black Slush for special occasions and I usually switch between Purple Jellato or Bon Bons, but I came along Envy for my top pick.

How did you get into Cannabis?

I sought a different field other than the food industry, and the opportunity arose, so I took it.
I live a double life of budtender by day and Eldin Lord by night. I'm an ultra weeb, so I spend a crazy amount of my life watching every anime possible within reason. Still, when I need to be more physically active, I love heading to Muay Thai Lao for sparring sessions to remind me that I'm getting older.

Jimi Devine, Victor Pinho, and Neil Dellacava invited amazing Bay and Sacramento Cannabis growers to the annual event

I know it’s early in 2022, but I’m just going to call it right now: The TransBay Challenge III will go down as one of the best events of the year. Exquisite vibes were the only thing more plentiful than fire weed at the third official installation of pot journalist Jimi Devine ’s unique Cannabis competition – where licensed cultivators, Cannabis connoisseurs from all walks of life, unlicensed small batch garage growers, passionate plant advocates and heady hash enthusiasts all united to bring forth one of the most welcoming, diverse and downright fun environments I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

San Francisco reggae legend Rocker T kicked off the event with an incredible two-plus hour long set that revisited his classics, but also mixed in an upbeat tempo to get the party going and set the vibe. The event was sponsored by a number of heavy-hitting brands such as Sacramento’s Seven Leaves and CAM , along with San Francisco’s Sunset Connect and a bevy of Bay Area based growers well versed in the fine art of growing the fire.

While it would be easy to classify the event as a consumption-focused Cannabis competition and be done with it, this was something far more: a special blend of 215-era faces, active trappers, and Prop 64 licensed brands bringing a unique feel not easily replicated. The sheer amount of absolute top shelf fire – legitimately some of the best flower in the world – was enough to make any weed enthusiast giddy. Yet somehow, in spite of all that, the sense of community and culture was thicker than the smoke in the air … and that is something our ever-diverse Cannabis scene has been lacking.

The Green Giants take the field

Seven Leaves’ company Wiffle Ball team the Green Giants, got out on the field this August. The Wiffle Ball tournament was host by the Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce. It was held on the very hot 104 degree day of Wednesday, August 14 ^th, at the beautiful local treasure, William Land Park in Sacramento. The mission of the tournament was to create a fun and collaborative atmosphere where professionals could build communication skills outside of the traditional office space. They aimed to increase team cohesiveness and help keep a work life balance. Seven Leaves had participated in the kick ball tournament back in 2018 and was very excited to play against other local businesses again in this annual friendly competition. The Green Giants had a blast. They split the tourney with one win and one loss. Amanda had the best hit for her 2 run double down the right field line. John had the best play in the field for his tough grab at second base and strong throw to a waiting Amanda at short stop. The whole team had great plays and at bats throughout the tourney. After the games the team enjoyed a tasty dinner provided by the great Choices Chicken of Sacramento. The Green Giants of Seven Leaves want to thank the Sacramento Asian Chamber for putting on such a great event and the other teams for their participation. “I come from ranching, tree land and hunting, so sustainability is important to me.”

Tyler, CEO of SevenLeaves, a Sacramento-based cannabis cultivation company, explains why enrolling in SMUD’s Greenergy program was perfect for his facility.

“The way the city was open to it, encouraging cultivation businesses to come here, was a big attraction. And just as important, there was a smaller and more personable power company. I’ve dealt with big utilities and they’re kind of inaccessible because of their size. SMUD offered much better customer service and accessibility. Plus, their price point was better.”

SevenLeaves promotes itself as using “the most sustainable methods available to cultivate, harvest, process and package our product. Eco-conscious consumers can come to us without hesitation.”

Tyler wanted to make sure that included the massive amount of energy he would need to power his facility.

“I was looking for something like that, so I called SMUD and their reps got back to us immediately with the program.”

Now, the entire SevenLeaves facility is 100% powered by renewable energy from SMUD’s Greenergy program.

“It’s worked out great, because we have a great relationship with our power provider. The Greenergy program is a little more expensive, but our SMUD rep gave us the rate schedule, so we adjusted our energy usage to the least expensive hours and we saved a lot. The difference when we avoid peak hours is substantial.”

And according to Brian, SevenLeaves’ lead grower, dependability of renewable energy is never a problem.

“The power from SMUD’s Greenergy program has always been reliable. In the two years that I’ve been here we’ve never had a power outage.”

“And it’s also something we can tell people about”, Tyler adds as he points to a plaque declaring that his facility is completely powered by renewable energy.

“That plaque in the front entrance, it’s the first thing people see and ask us about. And we can say we’re not sucking the grid dry; we’re trying to find ways to operate but be less of an impact on energy usage.

The other benefit of our easy communication with SMUD is the opportunity to speak with their representatives and then educate others in the industry about how we’re succeeding using the Greenergy program, as well as implementing new technologies with LED and Time-of-Use and HVAC systems to grow a better product in a more efficient way. And that, for me, coming from the energy world, is a big plus. I want other industrial cultivators to know that they can do this too, and work with SMUD and their programs, because it creates a safer environment.”
